Washington!

This weekend, we visited a couple of friends, Arne and Diana, in DC. Saturday, we toured the city center, and visited the biggest attractions, such as the White House, the Washington Monument and the Air and Space Museum. The exhibit at the Air and Space Museum was very interesting, and had a lot of cool stuff, such as the cockpit of a jumbo jet, a WWII Spitfire, a DC-3 and Spirit of St. Louis (first plane to cross the Atlantic). We also watched this fancy IMAX movie about the history of flying. The movie was probably sponsored by Boeing, as the narrator always drew lines between the airplanes of the past and the new  Boeing Dreamliner, calling it "amazing", "groundbreaking" etc... Anyways, if you're in the area and you have a couple of hours to spare, I recommend that you drop by.

On Sunday, we went out to Mt. Vernon, George Washington's old house. We spent a couple of hours touring the house and the gardens, learning quite a bit about the man himself, and about life during the late 18th century. After a quick stop at the Iwo Jima memorial, we took the bus home to NYC, a 5hr ride.

Denne helgen var vi i Washington og besøkte noen venner av oss, Arne og Diana. Lørdagen tok vi for oss noen av byens høydepunkter, feks Washington monumentet, Lincoln Memorial og det hvite hus. Etter dette dro vi på Air and Space Museum, et av Smithsonians mange museer. Museets utstillinger tar for seg alt fra ballongreiser på 1800-tallet til dagens romskip og ubemannede droner. Det er uendelig mange modeller, plansjer og videoklipp, men også en god del ordentlige fly som de har stilt ut. Blant disse er et Spitfire fra 2.vk, et DC-3 og cockpiten til en jumbojet. Meget artig museum, og det er nok å ta seg til for både store å små. Hvis du er i området med noen timer til overs og indianerhistorie (Museum of American Indians er vegg i vegg) ikke er din "piece of cake", så anbefaler jeg at du tar deg en tur innom.

Søndagen dro vi ut til Mt Vernon, hjemmet til George Washington, USAs første president. Her brukte vi noen timer på å gå rundt i huset og resten av eiendommen. Siste stopp på turen var minnesmerket til ære for marinesoldatene og slaget om Iwo Jima - en ti meter høy statue med utsikt over DC.

I morgen er det 17. mai,  hurra hurra! Jeg har fått fri fra skolen, så da blir det party.
